Our History
How Daybreak Began

During the 2020 COVID Pandemic, founder David Johanson was forced to shut down his successful small business. This gave him time to reflect on his life goals, leading David to pursue real estate investing. Soon David received a generous offer for his business. The sale proceeds provided startup capital for his new real estate holding company, Daybreak Properties.

In-depth market research led David to focus on the Upper Midwest, where he bought several single and multifamily properties in Minnesota and North Dakota. Soon he and his wife, Karen, moved from Los Gatos, California to Fargo, ND–David as the investor and Karen as the broker. The Daybreak family of companies now includes Daybreak Property Management, Daybreak Maintenance and Daybreak Realty.
